QUEZON CITY, Philippines – On September 14 till October 2, Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas is staging a tragedy play titled
Titus Andronicus: Tinataratadong Asintado, which is based on
William Shakespeare’s first and often referred to as the playwright’s attempt to emulate the violent and bloody revenge plays of his contemporaries, which were extremely popular with audiences throughout the sixteenth century. It will be a Layeta Bucoy’s Filipino adaptation and serves as the third offering for the company’s 36th season. Tuxqs Rutaquio directs.

The play will be topbilled by Cinemalaya 2011 best actor Bembol Roco and best supporting actress Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino, GMA-7 actor Mike Tan and theater thespians Mailes Kanapi, Paolo O’Hara, Paulo Cabenero, Arnold Reyes, Rolando Inocencio, Cris Pasturan, Nicco Manalo, JK Anicoche, Nar Cabico, Delphine Buencamino, Olive Nieto, and JR Macanas.
Titus Andronicus revolves around family, marriage, friendship, and politics. Clarissa Castillo (Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino and Mailes Kanapi), the widow of the former mayor plots to revenge against the former military man Carding Muñoz (Bembol Roco) who murdered her son. At that time he worked with Armando Torres (Paulo Cabeñero), the vice mayor running against the incumbent mayor, the husband of Clarissa. Things got off-hand when Clarissa found an opportunity to get even with Carding and with Armando and the rest of the Torreses.
