MANILA, Philippines - 19th of March was a day to reckon with for Philippine actresses Shamaine Centera-Buencamino and Eugene Domingo as they triumphed in this year's 6th Asian Film Awards, (which is tagged as the Asian counterpart of Oscars) held at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre where they were named as Best Supporting Actress for film ‘Niño’ and People's Choice for Favorite Actress for ‘Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank’, respectively.

Shamaine Centera-Buencamino of the Philippines has dodged all her rivals from different parts of Asia like Hong Kong (Gwei Lun-mei), Thailand (Cris Horwang), Japan (Mitsushima Hikari), and Mainland China (Yan Ni)—as she bagged the award for the said mentioned category with her performance in Niño, a film about a dysfunctional family amidst a financial problem. Shamaine Centera-Buencamino is best known as multi-awarded theater actress.

On the other hand, one of the Philippines’ top comediennes, Eugene Domingo caught the attention of the audience from all over Asia as she was named People's Choice for Favorite Actress for her role in ‘Ang Babae sa Septic Tank’, which was determined by online voting. Domingo reigned supreme over Vidya Balan of India, Leila Hatami of Iran, Michelle Chen of Taiwan, and Deanie IP of Hong Kong.

The two films of Buencamino and Domingo, have recently been acknowledged internationally as ‘Niño’ won the top prize in the Busan International Film while ‘Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank’ became our official entry for the 2011 Vancouver International Film Festival, Pusan International Film Festival, the Hawaii International Film Festival, the Tokyo International Film Festival, and the Far East Film Festival; and was also chosen to represent the Philippines in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 84th Academy Awards.
